GRUMPY OLD MEN’S GOLF LEAGUE

“THE RULES 2024”
NEW ADDITIONS TO THE RULES IN BOLD TYPE


TEE BOX AND HANDICAPS:  At Smithtown Landing we will use the Gold tees and the handicaps shall be assigned based on the Red handicaps

FENCE RULE: The ball may be moved two club lenghts away from the fence with a one stroke penalty. The ball cannot be moved closer to the hole nor away from any line of obstruction, should one exist. the Fence Rule does not apply to the fence running along the side of the road on the 8th hole.

WINTER RULES:  The ball on the fairway can be lifted, cleaned and placed. In the rough, the ball can be rolled over using the club only. A ball laying on the rocks or dirt can be moved with the opposing team’s approval. Any ball lying next to the fence can not be rolled over without penalty of stroke. Fence rule must apply.

SAND TRAPS;  Sandies will be rewarded if the player sinks his first putt after emerging from any bunker. You may go from bunker to bunker before making the shot. You are not limited to one bunker. If you come out of the bunker and land in another one, you will have an opportunity for a sandie. Par on the hole is not required. One shot out of the trap into the hole counts as a Chippie and a Sandie. You are allowed to lift and smooth any ball in the sand trap. Ball may be brought out of bunker to the edge,  no closer to the pin. Penalty for this is two strokes. These strokes are added to any strokes taken before decision to move the ball.

PAR 3’S:  Greenies will only be rewarded on Par 3’s  if the golfer makes Par or better on the hole and his tee shot has landed on the green. If the golfer closest to the pin does not make Par then any other golfer whose ball landed on the green will be eligible. Play to be determined by those ball closest to the pin.

When a Par 3 is made when a player is playing as the odd man of a threesome, That player shall keep the total amount of the par 3 winnings. It shall not be shared with either his blind partner pick or the twosome who is part of the group.

EAGLES: Golfer will be rewarded $5.00 from all golfers. Money is not shared with playing partner. This rule shall be in effect for both Tuesday and Thursday. Money is not to be counted in money won.

HOLE IN ONE:  Golfer will be rewarded $10.00 from all golfers playing that day. He will then buy a round of beer or soda on completion of the round. All monies is not shared with playing partner. This rule shall be in effect for both Tuesday and Thursday. Money is not to be counted in money won.

HANDICAPS:   No handicaps will be higher than 36. All foursomes will play a Nassau. .Handicaps will be recalculated every other week.

ASSESSMENTThere shall be an assessment of  $20.00 assessment for 2024 season.

MATCH PLAY:  This season match play competition will start at the end of the regular season and all matches will be played on Tuesday and Thursday. player he beat in the . All match play must be 18 holes. Match play will be seeded by the position of each Golfer in the total money list. The match play shall be reseeded after each round. In a match play tie, the winner of the back 9 holes shall be used to break the tie. If they are still tied, then the last six holes shall be used to break the tie. If still tied the last three holes shall be used. If the event they are still tied, a third party shall pick a hole number at random.   

Greenies, Sandies, Birdies, and Chippies: Are worth $1.00.

 Special Rule for hole Number 10. If the ball lands on the cart path behind the hole a drop can be taken on the side of the green on the hole number 2 side with no penalty. If ball lands in woods behind the hole it will be a one stroke penalty. Ball shall be put at the drop area

Wrong Ball: If the wrong ball is hit by a golfer, there shall be no penalty. The golfer must rehit his ball and the wrong ball shall be returned to its original location and hit by the correct golfer.

LOST BALL: The rules listed below shall be for all of the following conditions,
—–Ball hit in woods ,either lost or unplayable
—–Ball hit in the water
—–Ball hit into a safety out of bounds
—–Ball hit out of bounds
In the case where the golfer decides to drop a ball where it either went into the hazard or out of bounds,the golfer must drop the ball at right angle to where it entered the woods or water (except where a drop zone is indicated). In this case the golfer shall take one stroke and be hitting 3. The golfer can decide to go back to where he hit the ball from (either tee or fairway). In this case the golfer is laying 2 and hitting 3. If the golfer decides to hit where the ball goes into the woods or out of bounds, the opposition and the golfer shall agree on where the golfer can drop the ball two golf lengths from where it entered the hazard.

DOUBLE PAR PICK UP – If a player reaches double par and has not completed the hole he shall pick up his ball and be charged double the par for that hole.
Since the player may not be putting, the player shall be charged one more putts that the highest putts played by the balance of his foursome.
If the player is attempting a chippie or sandy on his double par shot, it shall count., if his chippie or sandy shot will bring him over double par, the shot to make the chippie or sandy will not count and the mark will not count.

OTHER RULES:  To be enforced as defined by the USGA or the Smithtown Landing Golf Club.
